What is it?

This standard concerns children’s toys and, more precisely, the release and migration of substances which are hazardous for the body and which toys must comply with when they come into contact with the skin through either sucking or prolonged contact.

Children spend a lot of their time at home, at nursery or at school in contact with toys, so it is essential they are safe and do not cause health problems.

Amonn has always been especially attentive to issues regarding children and has adopted the standard for many of its paints which have passed the stringent tests, certifying they are compliant.

The legislation

EN 71 is a European law governing safety requirements of children’s toys. More precisely, Part 3 – migration of certain elements – specifies the requirements and test methods for the migration of aluminium, antimony, arsenic, barium, boron, cadmium, chromium (III), chromium (VI), cobalt, copper, lead, manganese, mercury, nickel, selenium, strontium, tin, organic tin and zinc from the materials used to make toys or parts of toys.

The legislation was implemented [2] by Italian law and published in Italy by the Italian National Unification Body with the name UNI EN 71.
